It’s an auxiliary piece of equipment whose principle job is to remove large amounts of water before fuel reaches the engine-mounted fuel filter. It’s usually on a nearby bulkhead and identifiable by the clear bottom portion through which fuel and any water are visible. There’s usually a petcock at the bottom by which you can drain off any water.
