Palm Beach 55 with Volvo Penta IPS1200s
OK, OK, the Palm Beach 55 isn’t exactly a new boat, heck I tested one off Australia a few years ago [October 2013]. But this 55 is worth a closer look, mainly because of those burly 900-horsepower engines. “This is the first 55 with Volvo Penta IPS1200s,” says Palm Beach’s Carvey Iannuzzi, “and she’s going to be incredible. A true 40-knot boat, we think. The owner is coming out of a big Viking, and downsizing quite a bit, and wanted something he and his wife could handle without a captain or crew. But of course, he didn’t want to sacrifice that Viking speed, so we put this together for him. She’ll cruise at 36 knots, and also have an amidships master, which is a bit out of the ordinary for us. We’re tweaking her now. But when she comes out next spring, we think some heads are going to turn.”
See why I made this exception. This is a boat worth knowing about.
Debut Date: May 2016
