Ten years ago, a yacht management company approached Bill Coffman to build a tender to specific requirements. The boat, for a 70-meter Benetti, had to measure ten meters in length with a three-meter beam and possess no more than a two-meter height from keel to windshield. And it had to hit 40 mph with a load of ten to 12 people. Fulfilling every one of these criteria, CF Boat Works shop in Fort Lauderdale delivered the 33 Vela Nova.
Fast forward to today; the Benetti has different owners but the same tender. She’s a beautiful cold-molded mahogany boat with fir frames and stringers. Coffman just completed a refit on the boat, adding an 18-inch wedge under the transom that acts like trim tabs for the inboards. She now has an easier time finding her sweet spot and bringing smiles to her owners’ faces.
