If Riviera's new M470 anchored near the hamlet of Amity, you can be sure a mob of frantic swimmers would soon be on the beach. With lines like Jaws, her aspect is aggressive—even the radar arch, with a canvas fold-back bimini, sticks up like a dorsal fin. The cockpit, however, is softer. A rounded wet bar—with 'fridge, ice maker, and sink—extends along the port side, across from an aft-facing, L-shape lounge that's curved around a hardwood table. While these amenities will gladden guests, the helmsman will find himself coddled in an electrically adjustable chair.

As you go forward from the cockpit, the stainless steel handrail remains parallel to the water, accentuating the foredeck camber—the cardinal cause of her shark-like appearance. Before the deck slopes away to the forepeak and windlass, there's a sunpad, circumscribed by three small hatches, with plenty of space for sun worshippers.

Compared to the interiors of Riveria's convertibles of comparable length, the saloon appears more compact, space having been annexed for both the enormous cockpit and the two cabins. The forward cabin holds a double island berth, while the aft cabin has both a double and a single, accommodating a total of five adults. To port of the small carpeted saloon is the galley area, with an electric cooktop and enough counterspace to lay out a buffet—almost too much.

But as we all know, when it comes to power, there is no "too much." The M470 is outfitted with standard twin 425-hp MerCruiser gasoline stern drives, although 350-hp Volvo Penta D6 DuoProp diesel stern drives are an option. Riviera estimates a top speed of 46 mph and a cruise speed of about 41 mph with the MerCruisers, and her $398,000 price tag should make her just as aggressive in the marketplace.

Nautica RIB 19 Widebody

Nautica has revamped its 19-foot Widebody, adding a layout called the Limo that was previously only available in its 22-foot Widebody. Placing its steering console to starboard allows for bench seating—and dry stowage—along the length of the port side, making this the perfect tender for up to 12 yacht-hopping partygoers. Fortunately the Widebody's best standard features—three-person bench seating aft, swim platform, deep-V hull—remain, and all the Nautica accessories are still available. Since you can't close the sunroof on this limo, the addition of a detachable dodger will protect passengers from the spray and wind generated from a vessel with a 55-mph-plus top speed.
