Krogen 55 Expedition Trawler Yacht

Updated styling and a gracefully raked bow are two of the more evident features of the Krogen 55-foot Expedition, but they're just icing on the cake. Leveraging 30 years' experience in building bluewater passagemakers, Kadey-Krogen has raised the bar, offering a purebred expedition-style trawler of superior accommodation that boasts a cruising range of more than 3,000 NM.

Powered by a pair of conservatively rated 158-hp John Deere diesels, she can achieve that range on just 1,800 gallons of fuel carried in four aluminum tanks below decks. A cockpit hatch leads to the lazarette, where a passageway offers access to the engine room and a separate machinery room. To assure adequate reserve buoyancy, even in the event of hull damage, she has five watertight bulkheads.

Her layout is ideal for a couple with extended-range cruising ambitions. Forward is a spacious master stateroom with a true queen-size berth and three-side access. Two generous hanging lockers provide as much space as you might find in a shore-side apartment. And with two heads (one en suite, the other just aft that doubles as a day head), a cruising couple can have individual spaces for personal needs. Amidships there's an office/ day room that also serves as a stateroom for the occasional guest, thanks to a convertible settee.

The spacious galley boasts a suite of household-size appliances: side-by-side refrigerator-freezer, double-basin sink, four-burner cooktop, trash compactor, and even a dishwasher. Adjoining it is a full-beam saloon with a pair of easy chairs and a cocktail table to port, across from an L-shape settee that converts to a dinette. Just opposite the galley, a cabinet holds a wine cooler and an ice maker.

Long-range voyaging means plenty of time in the pilothouse, and that should be pleasant on the Krogen 55, with her centerline helm station, optional companion/navigator seat, and a raised settee to port. Also available is a built-in desk to starboard, in place of the standard cabinet and refrigerator. Aft on the bridge deck is space for a tender and davit and room to relax and catch some rays underway.
