Caprio’s First impression: Going Italian usually means going fast in an aesthetic delight, practicality be damned. Ferretti’s line of semi-displacement yachts, however, could make you feel as though you are in a villa at Positano. Time to relax, slow down, and sip the experience.
Italian yachts have always stirred the soul of any hard-core enthusiast. Visions of dashing among the islands in the Bay of Naples aboard a Riva Aquarama or speeding across the Adriatic aboard a glittering Pershing set the heart racing. On the other hand, a 1,200-mile cruise at 10 knots aboard a Ferretti Navetta 28 may change your mind about how a boat is best used.
Styled to set your mind at ease, the Navetta 28 promises to please its owners through many years of cruising. The design team has skillfully combined the seamanlike look of a traditional long-range cruiser with some of the captivating shapes we find on sportier yachts. Her sheerline sweeps aft from a businesslike bow, which suggests great seakeeping ability. A pair of perfectly positioned devilish eyes peer at onlookers from the expanse of the topsides. These whimsical elements make me smile, but more importantly, they light the interior and break up the acreage of fiberglass.
Although the exterior styling is conservative enough to enhance the classic appeal, owners rarely spend a lot of time looking at their boats from a distance. What’s inside keeps the friendship going. The Navetta’s 92-by-22-feet dimensions permit a lot of variety. Her three decks provide for a lot of privacy and a lot of socializing. A sun deck crowns the yacht and may be equipped with a Jacuzzi and an awning. The upper deck houses the centerline helm, a settee, and a circular dining area for eight. Curved sliding glass doors open to a spacious afterdeck, which has an L-shaped settee all the way aft. The view from up there must be wonderful.
On the main deck, we find the master stateroom forward, galley and dayhead next aft, and then the saloon. This deck is a single level from the galley to the transom, and acres of glass show off the world outdoors for all the guests to enjoy.
The lower deck has two staterooms amidships, and two more right forward of those. Crew’s quarters for five fill out the bow.
Tasteful contemporary décor encourages the owners and guests to dismiss their routine cares and simply enjoy being alive and at sea.
