Nothing Runs Like A Deere
John Deere has just recently announced a couple of new emission-busting Tier-3 products—the PowerTechTM 4.5L and 6.8L diesel engines. Thanks to high-pressure, common-rail fuel injection, four valves per cylinder, and turbocharging and aftercooling components, the power-dense 4.5L is now powerful enough to replace the old Tier-2 6.8L models. Moreover, it will be available (as a propulsion engine) with ratings from 160 horsepower to 225 horsepower and offered with keel-cooler or integrated-heat-exchanger options. The new 6.8L will have many of the 4.5L’s features and (again, as a propulsion engine) will be offered with ratings from 230 horsepower to 400 horsepower. Of course, John Deere will continue to provide Tier 2 as well as non-certified diesels for propulsion and genset applications to Canada and other regions of the world not regulated by EPA strictures.
