Hot Take: When you’ve got a 160-year history of shipbuilding as Baglietto does, you’ve probably got very little to prove, except to yourself. And it shows in builds like the 46M Fast.
Italian shipyard Baglietto doesn’t shy away from pushing boundaries. Perhaps it springs from the company’s history of building ships for the Italian navy. Or its daring to create the MV13, a burnished aluminum beauty that invokes the memory of a military torpedo boat. This builder has a chip on its shoulder, and the latest launch this past spring, the 46M Fast, makes the statement that it’s out to prove a thing or two, and then some.
If you look at the lines, a streamlined bow begins a combination of roundness and angular planes fitting together that continues over the boat’s entire length. She’s slab-sided all the way aft, with a high stern consistent with her sisters in the Baglietto line—a hallmark, if you will. A compact superstructure downplays the flying bridge, but if you look closely, you’ll see that the exterior spaces on this boat are cleverly designed to make the most of the available room. Two levels of hullside windows break up the substantial volume forward, a quality often concealed in an exterior design. That volume is cause for celebration in the interior, where rosewood and brightly polished white-lacquer panels play a role in a plan spearheaded by Francesco Paszkowski’s firm and architect Margharita Casprini. The 46M Fast will feature four en suite staterooms on the lower deck with a main-deck master offering an office and dressing room. The upper deck will have a skylounge and captain’s cabin, while crew’s quarters on the lower deck consist of four doubles, plus shared spaces.
