The Super Bowl's crowd favorite commercial seems to be the VW Darth Vader commercial. An adorable commercial no doubt, but not the one that got me to sit up and go, "Did you see that?! That was A!" (What can I say? I like my job.)
At this point, I had been strangely quiet as I was at a Steelers-centric party as my good friend suggested it would be wise of me to keep my Packers cheering to a minimum.
By the end of the game, I couldn't remember the car advertised, but I remembered the commerical that featured Desire. First, to refresh your memory, the full commercial:
Then a reminder of what the real life A looks like:
Very distinctive! Now, let's look at that yacht from the commercial again:
Sure, the hullside windows are a tad different, but Desire even features A's aft helipad and forward pool, so I began to get curious. I uncovered a behind-the-scenes video that Kia (the car that was actually advertised) released:
An interesting sneak peak, but no clues as to how they chose A to model their yacht on. In fact, there's no mention of the yacht muse at all!
So, what do you think? Think they asked Philippe Starck if they could borrow his design? Did Blohm & Voss help build the set?
