Serious sportfishing boats, cruising yachts, and center consoles—running parallel to one another—flew across the Gulf Stream bound for the Bahamian island of Bimini. A 56 Princess beside a 63 Viking, beside a Cruisers 45, if this were a scene from a movie it would be the part where the heroes strut in slow motion leading up to a serious butt kicking.
The flashy flotilla was en route to the sportfishing Mecca for some rest and relaxation via HMY Yacht Sales’ inaugural rendezvous. With an itinerary chock full of events such as barbecues, snorkeling, scavenger hunts, and a cocktail party or two (or four) it was bliss for boaters.
In total, 25 boats ranging from 26 to 70 feet attended the event. Perhaps more impressive than the eclectic fleet was the gamut of boaters in attendance. One individual had owned upwards of 50 different boats (yes, that’s 5-0 boats!) over his nautical career while the event also attracted fist-time boaters. For those looking to improve their seamanship skills, HMY’s team of experts made it a point to cruise alongside, ready to lend a hand should one be needed.
“We like to think that the service we provide is excellent,” said HMY’s digital marketing specialist Nicole Thomas, who cites as an example the fact that HMY had its captains leaving just about all of Florida’s major ports to accompany their clients across the Gulf Stream to Bimini.
“We’re not just in the business of selling boats; we’re selling a lifestyle,” she explained. “Boats are all about having fun with old friends and making new ones. Rendezvous events like this are part of the lifestyle. When our clients think of HMY we want them to not just think, ‘Oh they sold me my boat’ but that we contributed to them having a really great time.”
