Jason Y. Wood

Deputy Editor:

Jason Y. Wood grew up sailing and fishing the lakes and waterways of New England. Family vacations to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard instilled in him a love of the sea that continued through his studies at Bowdoin College in coastal Maine. His pursuit of fair winds and fish turned from passion to profession when he landed a job in 1997 as assistant editor at Offshore magazine, near Boston. Wood ascended to the national scene in 2000 with the vaunted and venerable Salt Water Sportsman, then located in Boston, where he served as associate editor. When the magazine moved to New York City at the end of 2004, Wood became the managing editor, helping with a comprehensive redesign and update of the title. He became managing editor of Yachting in 2008, and served as executive editor for two years.

Embracing his role as senior editor of Power & Motoryacht in 2011, Wood continues to enjoy covering the exciting and ever-changing world of boats and yachting. “The biggest thrill comes from trying to help the readers understand the sport better,” he says. “I try to cast a sensible light on more complex topics, whether it’s a new technology or a way to look at the market for buying or selling boats. The funny part is, I usually learn something—whether it’s a different angle or an unusual twist to the story—from the readers I meet. The ongoing conversation is the best part.”
