Izanami
191'9"
· 1993 Larry Ellison, yacht-lover (see no. 26) and admirer of
all things Japanese, decided not to rechristen this lady when he bought
her a few years ago. Her name is that of a central deity in the Shintoism
creation story. Izanami is mostly
notable for what she lacks: a single voluptuous curve to her form. Dramatic
and even startling in appearance, since she resembles a military craft,
Izanami almost dares other vessels
to take her on--the perfect complement to a yachtsman like Ellison,
who's an unabashedly competitive sailor (he owns a racing sloop,
Sayonnara) and businessman. B: Lürssen Werft,

Henriette
191'1"
· 1950 Part of the Latsis fleet (see no. 3), this lady is used
primarily by one of John Latsis's children, a daughter.

Seawolfe
190'8"
· 1957/2001 Astilleros Palma (not Astilleros Mallorca, as some
published reports have stated) is transforming this salvage tug into a
private vessel for a Greek owner, who has owned other large boats. The
two diesel engines drive a single huge propeller, permitting her to cruise
economically on one engine, and her range is an astounding 18,000 NM.
The new name is, in our opinion, preferable to the original, Clyde. B:

Pegasus
189'3"
· 2001 Right about now, an experienced yachting couple from
the East Coast of the United States should be enjoying their first cruise
in the Med aboard their largest yacht thus far. They sure enjoyed themselves
during the launch party--the building shed at Oceanco was turned
into the Wild West, complete with a mechanical bull, shooting gallery,
and a country and western band. Pegasus features a dark-blue hull and
a stunning Marc-Michaels interior. B: Oceanco,
South Africa/Holland; N: The "A" Group--Monte Carlo SAM;

Lady Mona K

· 1986 You can typically spot Lady Mona K in the South of France,
although she and her Middle Eastern owner do visit other parts of the
Med. She's for sale for $26 million. B:

Princess Tanya
188'10"
· 1961 Every proper charter yacht features a variety of watertoys,
and Princess Tanya is no different.
You can try your hand at the sailing dinghy, windsurfers, PWCs, or water
skis. And if any of the fussy ladies (or gents) in your party beg off
because their hair will get mussed, tell them not to fret--there's
a beauty salon onboard, staffed with a hairdresser/beautician. And speaking
of beauty, the superb interior features flawless paneling, large reception
areas, and accommodations for 18. All this can be yours for $210,000 per
week. B: Austin & Pickersgill, England; N:
Builder; H: Steel; E: 2/840-hp Busch-Sulzers

Ultima lll
187'9"
· 1998 Multibillionaire
financier Ron Perelman and his wife, actress Ellen Barkin, rang in the
new year in St. Bart's aboard their yacht. While he's never
permitted the interior to be photographed, we do know that there are some
Asian design elements, understandable considering the yacht was originally
commissioned by an Asian owner who had to bow out of the contract (due
to economic difficulties) when the yacht was nearing completion. B:

Midnight Saga
187'8"
· 1978 Despite an active charter schedule this summer in the
Med, where she's available for $140,000 a week ($161,000 through
the end of August), Midnight Saga
is seriously for sale for $10 million. Ten million dollars gets you a
real looker, with classic, elegant lines and an opulent interior. She's
also been meticulously maintained by her current owner, who's had
her since 1987. B: Cammenga Jachtbouw, Holland;
N: W. De Vries Lentsch; H: Steel; E: 2/1,350-hp Ruston Paxmans

Cleopatra C
187'0"
· 1985 Some owners drive to the marina to board their yachts,
others fly in their private jets to rendezvous with the vessels in remote
island areas. The owner of Cleopatra C merely
has to walk out his back door in Cannes, since she spends time behind
his house. B: Amels, Holland; N: Jon Bannenberg/Diana
