This member of the Golden Fleet (see no. 24) often transports scientists and other researchers around the world to survey the health of everything from islands to coral reefs. The yacht has a submersible stern lift for retrieving Golden Eye, a Cessna seaplane, once it returns from research trips. Earlier this year Golden Shadow was in the Seychelles.

If walls could talk, the ones aboard this lady would have some amazing tales to tell. She was launched as the private yacht Haida, but come World War II she was acquired by the U.S. Navy and put into service as the patrol boat USS Argus. After being decommissioned, she returned to yacht service as Sarina, but was perhaps best known as Rosenkavalier during the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Why can’t more men be like Issam Fares, the deputy prime minister of Lebanon? He gives his wife, Hala, free reign when it comes to commissioning yachts. In fact, he reportedly didn’t even see Wedge Too until he and his wife arrived in Monaco’s Port Hercule to spend their Christmas holidays aboard shortly after delivery. Thankfully he was delighted when he saw the vertical teak panels adorning her superstructure and the gotta-see-it-to-believe-it interior furnishings, like smiling gnomes holding tabletops.

Michael Evans, the billionaire behind the U.K.-based property investment and development company Evans Property Group, reportedly named his yacht after one of his business interests (White Rose Center) as well as his children (their initials spell out “Drachs”).

Lord Bernard Docker, a former chairman of Daimler, was famous for owning this yacht in the 1950’s. Another British citizen is said to own her presently. The yacht was seen in Lowestoft, the most easterly point in England, in May.

Van Triumph was listed for sale last fall for $12 million. We haven’t seen a recent ad for her, however, so we don’t know whether she changed hands or was removed from the market. She belongs to Hong Kong financier David Lieu and is kept in Hong Kong.
