As explained in the article, there is no UL standard for marine smoke alarms (yet), but this battery-powered device meets the standard for RV alarms, and hence the Coast Guard regulations for passenger vessels. It features a mute button with automatic reset so you won’t be tempted to disable it if set off by overdone toast or a cigar. The $15 Safe-T-Alert is also a petite four inches in diameter and comes with a handy mounting bracket.
