Russell Crowe gets Lost at Sea (not according to Russell Crowe)

Actor Russell Crowe sorta kinda maybe almost probably definitely got lost this weekend while paddling his kayak around Long Island Sound with a friend.Crowe paddled more than a phone’s throw from his home port this past weekend. PHOTO CREDIT: Caroline Bonarde UcciCrowe—who once played an intrepid British Navy captain in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World—beached his vessel on the far side of the Huntington Bay around 10 p.m. on Saturday night after setting out from Cold Spring Harbor for an evening paddle. The infamously hot-tempered Aussie was forced to call the Coast Guard for assistance getting home after “running out of day,” even though the pair “knew where exactly where [they] were,” he would later claim via Twitter.

Let this serve as a reminder, whether you’re an Oscar winner or a day tripper, you should always have a contingency plan when taking any boat out, particularly as the days grow shorter. It could mean the difference between life and death, or just a good ribbing from your friends when you finally return to the dock. Remember, what you do in life, echoes in eternity … and in your buddies’ jokes.
