Northern Lights Wins Top Certification from Lloyd’s

Northern Lights has received ISO 9001:2008 certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance. The Seattle-based genset and engine manufacturer was certified for its quality-management system (QMS) and for its track record of creating products that meet customer and regulatory requirements. “The implementation of an effective QMS offers a clearly structured, systematic approach to improving the customer experience,” said John Barrett, Northern Lights’ ISO Compliance Manager. “The QMS and ISO certification will help us operate in a cost-efficient and customer-focused manner.”

Furuno Named Manufacturer of the Year

For the fifth year running, Furuno has scored top honors in customer support from the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) The NMEA not only named the Camas, Washington, company the manufacturer of the year for its customer and dealer support, but also recognized Furuno’s NavNet 3D as the Best Radar and Best Navigation device in the industry. In all, Furuno took home five of the ten trophies handed out at the award ceremony in October.

Also in October, Furuno won a multimillion-dollar contract with the U.S. Coast Guard to replace 200 of the agency’s outdated radars on its cutter fleet. Each boat will receive replacement IMO radars that consist of single or multiple Black Box Radar processors, a 6.5-foot open-array antenna and single or multiple displays.

Nordic Tugs to Resume Building

After temporarily suspending production in September, Nordic Tugs is set to resume operations and make deliveries this spring. The Burlington, Washington, boatbuilder, known for its classic tug-style recreational cruisers, took orders for new boats throughout the fall boat show season during the production hiatus.
