Wooden You Know It
During the Monaco Yacht Show, the principality went Dutch. Not that checks were split but rather wooden shoes began popping up all over. As if the Dutch Cinderella had run through town and lost more than one shoe.
Or as if a group of Lilliputians had sailed to show to check out some yachts.
But the truth is rooted in reality and not fairy tale. The wooden shoes were part of Dutch design firm Vripack's 50th anniversary celebrations. The entire team gathered to craft these wooden shoes into boats and decorations.
The 50 pairs of shoes were meant to represent the years of the firm's existence. And, according to the press release, "Over the last 50 years Vripack has left multiple footprints in the shifting sands of time. By scattering these wooden shoes all over Monaco, we would like to recapture those footprints in order to leave legacies and to keep the stories alive."
The shoes were scooped up by locals and visitors, and only one made it back to the Vripack offices. Though I have to wonder how visitors fit the shoes into their suitcases...
