A Prosthetic tail saves the life of a dolphin
Since leaving home for college, visiting the local aquarium in Clearwater, Florida hadn’t made my priority list. That is, however, until someone told me about a resident Atlantic bottlenose dolphin at the aquarium who would be the star of an upcoming motion picture.
Her name is Winter. She was found at three months old wrapped in a crab trap. The injuries she sustained left her without a tail. Marine mammal veterinarians worked alongside a human prosthetics company to make Winter a prosthetic tail. Although she has been forced to relearn basic functions such as swimming, Winter is alive and thriving as a resident at the rescue aquarium.
Her story is one that has inspired an upcoming motion picture, “Dolphin Tale.” The trailer can be seen below.
