John Walker Replaces Reggie Fountain as President, CEO of Fountain Powerboats
Liberty Associates appointed John Walker president and CEO of Fountain Powerboats in December just days after Reggie Fountain, who founded the company more than 30 years ago, resigned.
“Mr. Walker’s career spans over 28 years in the boat-manufacturing industry, and Liberty is confident of his executive management abilities and his integrity to move Fountain forward,” said Bill Gates, Liberty’s CEO. “The entire team at Fountain Powerboats wishes Mr. Fountain the best of luck; and the company would welcome him back at any time.” Fountain said he resigned because of the direction the company was taking: “There are key differences in opinion and philosophy between the current owners and myself.” Liberty owns Donzi Marine, Pro-Line Boats, and Baja Marine and became the majority owner of Fountain Powerboats after it filed for bankruptcy in 2009. Prior to these changes, Liberty had announced it was discontinuing the factory-direct Fountain Factory Superstore citing new sales strategies.
