Monte Carlo Yachts has been focused on relatively large builds (an 86-footer debuted this summer) with a certain glamour. Last January, the company tried a bit of a different tack, launching the MC5 (shown), its first build under 60 feet, in Düsseldorf—she premiered stateside at the 2013 Lauderdale show. To be up to Monte Carlo’s standards the boat had to have large interior spaces suited to hosting parties and ferrying guests from, say, Bal Harbour to The Abacos. However the company was not willing to sacrifice much in the way of the vessel’s sleek aesthetic appeal. To their well-earned credit, Monte Carlo’s designers accomplished this feat. They were so successful in fact, that Monte Carlo is forging ahead with the MC5 series, and will launch the MC5S stateside this spring. That boat will essentially be an express cruiser with a twist. We spoke with Monte Carlo rep Gaelle Violleau to find out more about this exciting new line:
Power & Motoryacht:To you, what makes the MC5 series so unique?
Violleau:The main point of the MC5S, in particular, that makes her truly unique is the private saloon integrated at the rear of the hardtop, [we were able to do that without losing] the sporty and sleek line that is utterly Monte Carlo. [She’ll also have] a large cockpit, convertible into a saloon for four people, and equipped with a sound system, fridge, and optional shade canvas.
Power & Motoryacht:What onboard features on these boats do you suspect will be most popular?
Violleau:The Monte Carlo design and layout on one unique level that makes a huge living area on the main deck for certain. Also the full-width master cabin is extremely spacious and bright—and the sense of details and level of luxury onboard that make them true mini-yachts.
Power & Motoryacht:What is the next step for Monte Carlo Yachts?
Violleau: The expansion of the Monte Carlo range is evolving. Along with the flybridge motor cruisers, there will be a hard-top version of each model. We have an MC4 already in the water in Europe, and the MC6 is on the drawing board for fall 2015.
