Now with the jacking bolts quite snug, give the end of the propeller shaft a gentle but firm whack with a small sledgehammer. The vibration should make the propeller pop off the shaft taper suddenly. If not, tighten the jacking bolts a bit more, and give the shaft another whack. 

 the prop and shaftTo install a propeller, first “lap” the prop and shaft to ensure the best fit. To do this, coat the shaft with a valve-grinding compound, slide the propeller onto the shaft without inserting the key, use a nut to hold the prop in place, and rotate the propeller several times, thereby removing any burrs or other imperfections.
