The new Lowrance HDS-9 Gen2 Touch is an integrated multifunction display (MFD) that uses a 1-hertz internal GPS antenna to anchor chartplotting functionality via a variety of cartography packages, including the proprietary Insight USA charts and Navionics Platinum+. The chartplotting function allows the user to view two different chart packages in a split-screen format. For sounder function the HDS-9 Gen2 Touch has parent company Navico’s Broadband Sounder as well as the side-scanning StructureScan HD sonar. Both functions use the company’s data-recording feature to allow historical viewing of sonar data in an intuitive, back-scrolling format.

To network the HDS-9 Gen2 Touch, Lowrance gave it compatibility with NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, and Ethernet (two inputs) protocols for simple network expansion. The unit also has two SD card slots and a video input.
