Mercury has added 115-, 90-, and 75-hp models to its OptiMax line. All feature a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder block and the company’s OptiMax direct fuel-injection process. Mercury’s 038 Motorola control module manages the engines and offers SmartCraft capabilities with dashboard displays.

The heart of these engines is OptiMax, a two-stage system whereby fuel is discharged into a holding cavity before being shot into the cylinder by a burst of pressurized air. This results in a finer dispersion of fuel, creating a more complete burn; smoother, more efficient operation; and fewer emissions. According to Mercury, OptiMax creates the finest atomization of fuel in any system available and uses up to 45 percent less fuel than traditional two-stroke engines. OptiMax engines also feature a self-contained 60-amp/756-watt belt-driven alternator and a five-quart integral oil reservoir.

All three engines are CARB three-star compliant.
