On the Megayachts forum, people are talking about: Rising Sun (a.k.a. LE120, her former project name).

In early December several forum members were tracking her first transatlantic crossing, from Gibraltar to the Caribbean. Upon her arrival in Virgin Gorda, one member, szillat (who, conveniently, is from Virgin Gorda), remarked, “Came around the corner of Prickly Pear Island en route to Leverick Bay and thought that a cruise ship was coming across our bow. The lighting on this vessel would challenge any cruise ship.” After taking some pictures and posting a link to them, he inspired the rest of the yacht-spotting community to weigh in with their opinions. Weser, from Germany, commented, “unbelievable pics. It’s not a yacht but a vessel and not comparable to usual recreation yachts.”

Not everyone likes Rising Sun’s styling, however. Kevin, a spotter from Canada, remarked, “the ‘greenhouse’ look of the superstructure is just ugh!” Ashoka, from Seattle, posted, “I’m a huge fan of most of Bannenberg’s designs, but this one takes some time to get used to.” But of all the opinions posted, the best comment came from capitan_buzo3, a member from California: “HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!”

Cheoy Lee is building a version of its 84-footer for YachtWise’s fractional-ownership program. When the yacht, MoonRising, is delivered next year, she’ll have a large country kitchen plus a dining area in the saloon, as well as three staterooms below deck. MoonRising will be based initially in the Northeast for the summer and the Bahamas and Caribbean for the winter. For more information, visit www.yachtwise.com. …Talk about secretive: Blohm + Voss has signed its first new-build yacht contract since the 1990’s, but due to confidentiality agreements, it’s not permitted to release information on the yacht’s LOA or features. The only public information is the expected delivery date, 2007. …Expected for delivery a lot sooner is an Andrew Winch Designs project under construction at Amels. The 190-footer, to be launched next year, will be highlighted by an owner’s suite that contains a gym and a study. Other features include a glass-enclosed elevator. …Westship World Yachts is putting the finishing touches on the first of its 110-foot Raised Bridge Liberty Series at its Tampa facility. Built in conjunction with Virginia-based Prestige Yachts, the yacht features a hull by Giovanni Arrabito and styling and interior design by Evan Marshall. Built on spec, she should be ready for delivery around the time you’re reading this.
