When it comes to outfitting my onboard toolbox, one key tool is a tube or can of Star brite’s Liquid Electrical Tape. When used properly, this product offers the best way to ensure solid, durable electrical connections. It forms a protective dielectric coating that seals out moisture, preventing corrosion. First remove any corrosion, and strip back the insulation to clean and bright wire before applying it. If you are using the brush-on version, apply enough Liquid Electrical Tape to cover the connection, and let the product dry for about five minutes. If you want a thicker seal, you can apply a second coat. If you’re using the tube, merely squeeze it on to the desired thickness and allow it to dry. Star brite’s Liquid Electrical Tape comes in five colors; black, red, green, white, and clear. You can purchase it at most marine stores for about $6 to $7. —K.K.
