Last year we mentioned that John Deere, best known for farm equipment and lawn tractors, had entered the marine propulsion market. For 2003 it has launched the PowerTech 6068SFM, designed for light-duty marine applications requiring intervals of high horsepower. Its weight-to-power ratio of 4.5 lbs/hp makes it ideal for applications that require a compact, light power package. The engine is available in M1 through M5 ratings ranging from 180 hp at 2200 rpm to 300 hp at 2600 rpm. The 6068SFM comes with a standard two-year/1,000-hour warranty, which can be extended to three, four, or five years with a maximum of 2,000 hours. Phone: (800) 533-6446. www.deere.com/jdpower.
