By late last year, Bombardier, the Montreal, Canada-based company that saved American outboard icons Evinrude and Johnson from extinction, had announced that it had opened its 2,500th dealership, the Pompano Beach Marine Center, in Pompano Beach, Florida. In addition it has added four two-strokes and four four-strokes to the Johnson line and 250- and 200-hp HO engines to the Evinrude line.

The 250 and 200 HO are two-cycle direct-injection V-6s that come with FasTrak power trim and tilt and S.L.O.W., which automatically and gradually reduces the speed of the engine to a safe level if overheating or other potentially damaging conditions arise. Also standard are targeted oil injection, a 60-amp alternator with voltage regulator and battery isolator, a tilt-limit switch, and a built-in trailering support arm.

The new two-stroke Johnsons include 6-, 8-, 9.9-, and 15-hp models, while the new four-stroke models include a 4, 90, 115, and 140. The 140 comes in 20- and 25-inch shaft sizes, which weigh 417 and 425 pounds, respectively. This four-cylinder, in-line, dual-overhead cam engine feature four valves per cylinder, a 40-amp alternator, and digital sequential electronic fuel injection.
