PFD
Required
We know them as brave and ready souls, whose motto Semper Paratus,
Always Prepared, has been tested time and time again. Now the U.S.
Coast Guard is proposing a regulation that will require children under
the age of 13 to wear an approved PFD while on a vessel that is underway,
except when he or she is below decks. That's a good idea, considering
statistics show that between 1995 and 1998 more than 100 children
died in water-related accidents and 66 of those were drownings. Some
35 states already require youngsters to wear PFDs, so the regulation
would apply to boaters in those states that do not have any requirements
in place. |
