While they’re not certified ice-breakers like the 238-foot Giant and lack the more than 58,000 gallons of fuel carried aboard the 228-foot Aussie Rules, the following charter yachts have the go-anywhere attitude that attracts adventurous guests.

The CEO Expeditions fleet includes the 100-foot classic Burger Katania and the 120-foot Vosper-Thornycroft Kayana. Both yachts spend summers in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, and Kayana cruises Mexico and Costa Rica during the winter. Katania carries six guests for a base rate of $29,900 per week; Kayana carries ten for a base rate of $49,900. Phone: (425) 460-4100.

Surprise, a 115-foot McMullen & Wing in the Fraser Yachts Worldwide fleet, has a $55,000 per week base rate for eight guests. Her home port is in the South Pacific—which means a crew that knows the best ways to avoid tourists in Fiji. Phone: (954) 463-0640.

Askari, also in the Fraser fleet, is a 108-foot Sermons with a $56,000 per week high-season base rate for ten guests. She just completed a ‘round-the-world charter as a demonstration of her capabilities (see “The Time of Their Lives,” April 2003). Phone: (954) 463-0600.

Carrying as many as eight guests in three staterooms, the 85-foot Doggersbank Endurance is a good value among “go-anywhere” charter yachts. She cruises the waters between Alaska and western Mexico at a base rate of $25,500 per week and is part of The Marine Group fleet. Phone: (561) 627-9500.

Another beautiful Doggersbank is the 90-foot Tivoli, which carries up to eight guests in three staterooms for a base rate of $29,500 per week. Her pale yellow hull helps her stand out as part of the Nicholson Yacht Charters fleet. Phone: (800) 662-6066 or (617) 661-0555.

Nigel Burgess has two 110-foot converted tugboats in its fleet: Ananta and Alter Ego. The former carries up to eight guests in four cabins, the latter up to 12 guests in five cabins. Aboard both, the cabins can be set up as doubles or twins. Prices on request. Phone: (44) 20 7766 4300.

The 163-foot Schweers Shandor, part of the charter fleet at Yachting Partners International, completed major interior and systems renovations earlier this year in preparation for a three-year worldwide cruise that will include stops in Panama, the Galapagos Islands, and Australia. She takes up to 12 guests in five staterooms for a high-season base rate of $164,500 per week. Phone: (44) 12 7357 1722. —K.K.
