A big trend in marine electronics is full line integration, and Northstar has jumped in big time with its "all-in-one" 958, which adds multiple radar options and flexible picture-in-picture video to the already hearty plotter and fishfinder capabilities of its 957. With its sunlight-viewable 10.4-inch display, the 958 is available with radar antennas ranging from a 4-kW dome to a 12-kW open-array. Prices start at $9,190. The feature and control sets are entirely too vast to detail here, but rest assured that Northstar worked hard to make the 958's myriad possibilities easily manageable via a carefully designed and quite attractive new version of its soft-key-centric interface.
