VEI is celebrating its 15th birthday in an area of marine electronics where there has been an unfortunate number of flashes-in-the-pan. The company produces a wide variety of onboard computers, monitors, and accessories, and pictured here is one of the new Marci series of dedicated CPUs. It’s essentially a small (6"x4"x10"), durable computer set up to perform one task—navigation, security, or communications—reliably. A Marci with a charting program like Transas installed costs $2,000. Many options, like the keypad seen here, are available. VEI is considering a Marci version specifically tailored for the RayTech RNS discussed in the column. VEI Phone: (954) 653-0210. www.vei-systems.com.
