Leisure on the Lake By Eileen Mansfield |

For guests of The Point wanting a tour of Saranac Lake, having a staff member take them around in the Hacker Craft or the resort’s 33-foot Elco electric launch is the obvious choice. But for those who want a little more privacy and serenity, a better option might be one of the three Budsin Wood Craft electric boats that they can take out on their own. The 15-foot cedar and mahogany boats, called Lightning Bugs, seat four guests comfortably and are powered by 700-watt, 24-volt electric motors. They have a top speed of 6.1 mph and a 5.5-mph cruise speed, and guests can tool around the lake for 4.5 hours at top speed and five to six hours at cruise speed before the motors need recharging. The Point boats also have an optional canopy to keep guests cool under the summer sun. —E.M. Budsin Wood Craft Phone: (252) 729-1540. www.budsin.com.
