Our test boat was fitted out with an unusual option, a tender garage that can instantly convert to an accommodation space, complete with MSD, sink, shower, fold-out single berth, and full-time access through a hatch under a cockpit cushion. The rationale behind the option is that during long periods at anchor, the tender can be removed from the garage (via rollers and a dedicated electric winch) so that children, grandchildren, or a crew member can take up residence. While the proximity of the place to the water makes me worry about dampness, especially where bedding is involved, the idea’s an interesting one nonetheless. I checked out the berth, and the view through the opening aft was pleasingly panoramic (right). And with the tender tethered to the swim platform, a freshwater shower nearby, and a well-stocked cooler on hand, the possibilities seemed endless. —B.P. |
