Simrad Helm Planning Kits By Capt. Patrick Sciacca — November 2002 |
|||||||||||||||||||||
Your new boat is complete with four staterooms, high-gloss woods, and leather helm chairs. Now it's time for electronics. You look at the helm and think, how do I most efficiently fit them in the console? For $20 you can purchase the Simrad Helm Planning Kit, which includes color cutouts of fishfinders, chartplotters, radars, combo systems, VHFs, and more, directly from the electronics manufacturer or through its dealers. These cutouts come in a range of sizes and styles to help you decide which look suits your helm. Don't worry about the cutouts leaving a gummy residue on the helm, as they are made of a static-cling material that lets you reposition them multiple times to optimize your boat's helm space. Simrad does caution, however, that these cutouts are not to be used as templates, so wait until your real electronics and official templates arrive before you go to task with the saw.
