It's a RIB and an ultralight! It's called a FIB (Flying Inflatable Boat), and it's one of the coolest watertoys I've ever seen.

A joint venture between Polaris Motor and Lomac Nautica, this hybrid vehicle offers the fun of flying and boating. The boat side of the craft is a slightly modified RIB. The bow of the fiberglass hull has been increased in volume to add lift during takeoff.

On the flying end, the FIB's hang-glider-like wings are set up on an A-frame. Steering is accomplished similarly to hang-gliding with a bar that slides left, right, forward, and back. The FIB runs on either a 48-hp Rotax 503 or 64-hp Rotax 582 engine attached to a two- or three-blade (respectively) wooden propeller. Call for pricing and training information.
