It’s Not a Giant Beer Can

This foldable recompression system (a.k.a. FoldaReC) may resemble a giant beer can, but the device, unlike beer, doesn't contain bubbles. It removes them.

If a diver becomes disabled due to excessive nitrogen in his bloodstream (i.e., the bends), it's imperative to remove the nitrogen gas bubbles from the bloodstream before a potentially fatal embolism can occur. Having this easily stowed device--it comes in 24-, 30-, 36-, and 48-inch diameters with either a rigid or flexible stowage container--can provide the necessary lifesaving oxygen.

In addition to constructing the FoldaReC, its manufacturer, Italy-based GSE, offers two-to-five-day training courses through its U.S. dealer (see number below) to qualify individuals to operate the device. Ten yachts currently carry the units onboard, which cost approximately $40,000.
