Avast ye Blaggard!
By Capt. Patrick Sciacca — April 2003
If you don't get enough high-seas adventure on your boat this summer, there's plenty to be found in the cinema, complete with good pirates and bad pirates.
Disney has made a movie based on its theme-park ride Pirates of the Caribbean. The film, which shares the same name, stars Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, From Hell) as Jack Sparrow (a.k.a. the good pirate) and Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush (Shine) as Capt. Blackheart (I think his name says it all). Set in 17th-century England, Blackheart and his crew are carrying a curse that leaves them existing somewhere between the living and the dead, and moonlight reveals the damned pirates' true identity. It's up to Sparrow to break the curse.
Although Pirates of the Caribbean is not in theaters until the summer, a sneak-peek trailer is available on the Disney Web site.
