The 15th edition of Dutton’s Nautical Navigation, a classic reference used by boaters worldwide for more than 75 years, is in print. Its publisher, Nautical Institute Press (the book-publishing segment of the U.S. Naval Institute), says the book will meet the needs of today’s navigator, even in a world where GPS and computers are commonplace. Since not every skipper will have a computer or the right software on hand at all times, the book will help you understand “what lies behind computer algorithms, to separate true navigators from mere users of technology.”

The new 464-page version (with 130 illustrations) is a blend of Benjamin Dutton’s original 1926 guide and 21st-century technologies. It features valuable information about celestial identification and navigation, explains the concept of time and how to use a sextant, offers a color appendix describing navigational symbols, and much more.

Dutton’s Nautical Navigations retails for $49.95 and is available through the Institute’s Web site.
