The eighth edition of Farwell’s Rules of the Nautical Road is now in print. The most recent version is as valuable an addition to your boat as the original, published some 63 years ago.

The latest version takes into consideration technological advancements that have been made in navigation and collision-avoidance technology. Moreover, the section about radar and automatic radar plotting aids has been expanded to include information on integrated helm electronics and bridge systems, automatic identification systems, voyage data recorders, and more. There’s also a section highlighting judicial and U.S. Coast Guard decisions against licensed mariners and casualty investigations.

The 700-page book is published by the Naval Institute Press, retails for $45, and is available at bookstores nationwide, online, or directly through its publisher.
