The Sound of Silence
By Elizabeth Ginns Britten — April 2005
Let’s face it: Engines are noisy, and the noxious fumes they emit are unpleasant and dangerous for humans to breathe. The good news is that boatbuilders and engine manufacturers alike are always generating new and improved ways of making engines and boats quieter and safer all around.
That’s probably why engineers at Centek Industries, a sponsor of the National Clean Boating Campaign, created a muffler designed to silence the noise of underwater exhausts and minimize their fumes by combining the main underwater exhaust outlet and bypass silencer into one unit.
The proprietary muffler is said to work with exhaust systems on engines up to 2,000 hp and comes in a number of shapes and sizes to fit practically any space.
