These days it seems that no matter what you eat, there’s something to be wary of. With chicken, there’s bird flu. Beef? Mad Cow disease. Eggs? Salmonella. Quite frankly, it’s hard to keep up. But thanks to Seafood Watch, a new program started by the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California, keeping track of which seafood is safe and what’s off limits just got a whole lot easier.
Seafood Watch has created a wallet-size card that divides fish (shellfish included) into three main categories: Best Choice, Caution, and Avoid. There are two versions—national and West Coast regional. Each folds up into a 2"x3.5" booklet, so you can carry it with you just about anywhere, making your grocery-store and restaurant choices a guilt- and worry-free experience.
The best part about this card is that it’s free; you can download a copy from the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Web site or call the Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program to order one.
