Oh, there are so many bits to a modern yacht! Bluewater Logistics, a longtime Newport, Rhode Island-based parts expeditor, has developed a service called MasterLog whereby every piece of gear, serial number, consumable, and individual manual can be databased by name and onboard location into a hierarchy of HTML pages. The results, including digital photographs, can be searched and viewed on the yacht’s computer or served by Bluewater via the Web to troubleshooting technicians or parts departments anywhere.

A custom, hands-on inventory for a 50-foot powerboat runs $2,500 and up, depending on its complexity.
