A new Danish company, Lopolight, has introduced elegant LED navigation lights that are so strong you can step on them and they should never fail. The 50,000-hour “bulbs,” potted in epoxy and cased in aluminum, will run on anything from 10 to 32 volts, while cutting conventional amp consumption some 90 percent. The $380, 3-NM-range stern light shown is certified to international (COLREG) standards for vessels to 50 meters, and is one of a nearly complete line that includes single and combined sidelights, anchor lights, and even special purpose lights. Lopolight also makes LED cabin lights like the $190 red/white chart table model shown.
