61. INSPIRATION |
L: 156'0" Y: 1996
The
largest yacht built by Broward Marine is for sale for $15.9 million. There's
a baby grand piano as well as a 40-inch plasma-screen TV onboard for entertainment.
The current owner uses her as a second home and also charters the yacht
for cruises along the U.S. East Coast and the Caribbean. B: Broward Marine,
USA; N: Builder; H: Aluminum; E: 2/2,200-hp Detroit Diesels
62. THEMIS |
L: 156'0" Y: 1998
Themis
is for sale for just shy of $22 million. Her amenities include a granite-topped
bar aft in her saloon and another bar in the sky lounge. There's
also an abundance of well-crafted, warm-hued pear wood throughout. Her
namesake is the symbol of blind justice. B: Trinity Yachts, USA; N: Builder/Paragon
Design; H: Aluminum; E: 2/2,250-hp Caterpillars
63. D’NATALIN
II | L: 155'10" Y: 1999
Our
hats go off to the quick-acting crew of this yacht. A helicopter taking
charter guests to her in August got caught in a downdraft and crashed
into the water, but thankfully two crew members who were in a nearby tender
raced over to pull out the guests. Reports state no one was seriously
hurt. B: Feadship/Royal Van Lent Shipyard, Holland; N: de Voogt Naval
Architects; H: Steel; E: 2/905-hp Caterpillars
64. LIQUIDITY
| L: 155'0" Y: 2001
About $23
million will buy you this beauty, featuring a high-gloss walnut interior,
six staterooms, and an elevator. The owners, Tennesseeans Henry and Kelly
Luken of long-distance company Covista Communications, have decided to
purchase a 157-footer that is under construction at Christensen and is
set for delivery in about two years. But that doesn't mean this
lady is going unused. In May, for example, she hosted a fundraiser onboard
in Knoxville, Tennessee, for U.S. Rep. Van Hilleary, who was seeking the
Republican nod for governor. The yacht caused just as big of a stir the
year before when she stayed in the middle of the Tennessee River for a
University of Tennessee Vols football game. B: Christensen Shipyards,
USA; N: Builder; H: Fiberglass; E: 2/1,800-hp DDC-MTUs
65. SHAMWARI
| L: 155'0" Y: 1991
This yacht's
name has an interesting derivation; it means "friend" in the
Shona language of Zimbabwe. Her captain made a generous donation to VISAR
(Virgin Islands Search and Rescue, a volunteer organization dedicated
to safety at sea) after the organization assisted the owner last year.
The yacht was spotted in California in August. B: Benetti, Italy; N: Builder;
H: Steel; E: 2/1,950-hp MTUs
66. ROXANA |
L: 154'0" Y: 1998
A Midwesterner
in the publishing business has enjoyed family trips both here and abroad
onboard Roxana. The interior features beautiful woodwork and a spectacular
mural that covers every square inch of the circular dining room. Like
many Top 100 yachts, this one is named after the owner's wife. B:
Admiral Marine Works, USA; N: Donald Starkey/Builder; H: Fiberglass; E:
2/1,650-hp Caterpillars
67. CHARADE |
L: 153'10" Y: 1990
Talk about
glamorous company: Giorgio Armani threw a party aboard this yacht for
a few dozen people during this year's Cannes Film Festival. Among
the attendees: director Martin Scorcese, actor Leonardo Di Caprio, actress
Cameron Diaz, and actor Jack Nicholson. Jody Allen, sister of Paul Allen
(see no. 3 and 13), owns this Feadship. Actually, Paul used to own the
yacht but gave it to his sister (what a guy). B: Feadship/De Vries Scheepsbouw,
Holland; N: H.W. De Voogt Naval Architects; H: Steel; E: 2/905-hp Caterpillars
68. DAYBREAK
| L: 153'3" Y: 1997
Like many
megayachts, this one spends winters in the Caribbean and summers in the
Mediterranean. A gentleman from South Florida stepped up to her from a
130-footer. B: Feadship/Royal Van Lent Shipyard, Holland; N: De Voogt
Naval Architects; H: Steel; E: 2/905-hp Caterpillars
69. CHARISMA
| L: 153'0" Y: 1995
A major
refit has ensured that the decor of this Feadship is extravagant. She
spent part of the summer cruising the Bahamas before heading to the Caribbean
for the winter charter season, where she'll be available for $135,000
per week. B: Feadship/Royal Van Lent Shipyard, Holland; N: H.W. De Voogt
Naval Architects; H: Steel; E: 2/800-hp Detroit Diesels
70.
GENESIS | L: 153'0" Y: 2002
This yacht
marks several firsts. She's the first to emerge from a new yacht-building
team comprised of experts on both shores of the Atlantic. She also marks
the first yacht that Ralph Lauren Home has ever designed, highlighted
by rich tones. But most impressive, she's the first yacht designed
from top to bottom with wide-open spaces that a wheelchair-bound person
can easily access. During sea trials earlier this summer, she hit her
projected 20-knot mark. B: North American Yachts & Shipbuilding, Italy/USA;
N: Sergio Cutolo/ Luiz De Basto; H: Steel: E: 2/1.950-hp Caterpillars
