Maptech has managed to clearly explain the essential relationship of GPS and traditional charts on a single flip-fold 14"x60" sheet of waterproof paper. Carefully written and richly illustrated, the $20 publication goes well beyond GPS manuals in terms of whys and how-tos, but is easier to digest than most navigation tomes. The focus is on using a plain GPS with a paper chart, but boaters using plotters and PCs can learn something here, too. And given that it’s easier to have backup GPS than backup digital charts these days, this reminder sheet might be handy to have when and if your primary electronic navigation goes down.
