Bayliss B16 84-foot Orion

Bayliss B16 84-foot Orion

Established in 2002, Bayliss Boatworks is a relative new-comer to the rugged world of Outer Banks boatbuilding. But the company’s somewhat brief history hasn’t stopped it from turning out quality boats that can compete with the best of them and look as aggressive as the tuna and marlin they aim to raise. The 84-foot Orion is Bayliss’ 16th hull, and the company plans to outfit her with sleek, navy blue paint that is sure to turn heads out on the water and at the docks. Her fishing amenities will be plentiful, particularly in the cockpit, which should have an in-deck fishbox, a transom livewell/fishbox, stainless steel refrigeration compartments, and a mezzanine from which to take in the action. Down below, Orion will sport a five-stateroom, five-head layout that includes a first for the upstart company: a spacious full-beam master with a six-foot-tall walk-in closet and a king-size berth.

This 84-footer will also be blessed with enough giddyup to get even the most seasoned fisherman’s heart pounding—to the tune of twin 2,600-hp MTU 16V2000 M94s. Bayliss says it should have the boat howling across the chop at up to 46 mph. At that speed, it won’t be long until the old guard feels this relatively new kid on the block coming up on them fast.
