The new Fast-Dri Pique Polo from Henri Lloyd may look like your standard issue T-shirt, but that traditional styling belies some decidedly high-tech features. The company's signature Fast-Dri fabric is lightweight, durable, and replete with a so-called Durable Water Repellency (DWR) finish, which allows it to shed surface water. And this hydrophobic polo won't just work hard to keep you dry, it'll also keep your skin burn-free. Henry Lloyd's Fast-Dri fabric is designed to provide serious UV protection. The Pique Polo retails for around $49.
The new Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Convertible Pant from Columbia Sportswear is a great two-fer. When you're in the mood to show off your shins, just zip off the detachable legs, and viola! Shorts. Ample, multifunction pockets give you plenty of places to stash keys, tools, and other miscellany. And the Silver Ridge's Omni-Dry fabric provides moisture management. But the real kicker is the pant's UV Protection Factor rating of 30+, which has been reviewed and endorsed by the Skin Cancer Foundation. The Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Pant retails for around $65.
Sun Precautions is a company built upon a dedication to SPF. All of the apparel in the company's Solumbra line is constructed from fabric with an SPF of 30+, meaning it blocks more than 97 percent of UVA and UVB rays. According to Sun Precautions, said solar protection is mechanically built into each garment—not just applied as a treatment—so it won't wear off. A great pick for boaters? The Ultra Athlete Shirt ($89.95) which not only prevents burns, it also features ventilated panels, which run from your shoulders to your waist.
What do women want? I'm not typically one for generalizations, but I'd be willing to wager that a lot of seafaring females—like a lot of seafaring males—want boat-appropriate garb that's both functional and en vogue. Well, good news. The new Surge Women's Tee (approximately $40) from Gill fits the bill. This polyester, fast-wicking shirt provides serious wetness protection and a UV Protection Factor of 50+. The Surge has a stylish, feminine cut (close to the body) and is available in white, dune, and coral.
