World's 100 Largest Yachts 2008 #88: Wedge Too
#88: WEDGE TOO—213'3"
Whether you think it's creative or crazy, the design, both inside and out, of Wedge Too is undeniably the definition of custom. Vertical wood panels adorn the superstructure, while brightly colored, egg-shape ottomans/chairs and crooked-legged lamps live side by side in various rooms.
Y: 2002; B: Feadship/De Vries Scheepsbouw, Holland; N: De Voogt Naval Architects/Phillipe Starck; H: steel; E: 2/2,000-hp Caterpillars
—When first presented with the project, Starck referred to yachts as "the most daftest toys imaginable"
—the process to get it done is a still a secret, but all of the wood onboard this 213-footer has been hand-finished (talk about man-hours)
—at her 13-knot cruise speed, Wedge Too has a 4,700-NM range on her 33,325-gallon fuel capacity
—Van Berge Henegouwen, the company that supplied this yacht's entertainment system, has completed more than 40 other megayacht projects, including Rasselas and Al Mirqab
—while this vessel is decorated with gnomes throughout her interior, there's no truth to the rumor that Travelocity's famed "roaming gnome" is one of them.—Capt. Patrick Sciacca
