Taking Hampton Yachts in a new direction, the Endurance 700 is a bit of a hybrid, combining the virtues of a full-displacement passagemaker and a semidisplacement motoryacht. With her Portuguese bridge and canted windshield protected by a generous brow, she has the bulldog-tough look of a serious expedition yacht. But her hull's versatile semidisplacement form offers superior efficiency at extended-range cruising speeds of 10 to 12 knots as well as economical performance at fast cruise speeds in the 16- to 18-knot range. Cruising range at 10 knots is around 2,000 miles, yet with standard twin 800-hp Caterpillars, she'll top out at 21 knots. For an extra turn of speed, twin 1,000- or 1,200-hp Cats are available.
The key to achieving efficient operation in both the full- and semidisplacement range of speeds is a hybrid hull form that has a classic, fine-entry, round-bottom shape in the forward third of its length combined with a hard-chine, semidisplacement design in the after two-thirds of the hull. Aft, a hard chine and a relatively shallow deadrise resist stern squatting, allowing the hull to maintain its efficiency even at speeds approaching 20 knots. Going forward, the hull transitions from a hard chine to a round bilge form, with no chine in the forward sections. A prominent sprayrail well above the waterline serves as an effective spray-knocker near the bow without creating the additional drag that a chine would produce. An added benefit of foregoing the chine is that it eliminates the annoying wave slap at anchor that is so common in hard-chine hulls.
The Endurance 700's construction is as sophisticated as her hull design, with a hand-laid, solid-fiberglass bottom reinforced with Kevlar from chine to chine. Vinylester resin in the five outermost layers of the laminate protects against blistering, while a hull-to-deck joint that's through-bolted, sealed with 3M 5200 adhesive, and laminated with fiberglass assures structural integrity. Her decks and superstructure are cored with PVC foam for added strength and to reduce topside weight.
Burl inlays and tabletops accent high-gloss Makore wood. Amidships is a full-beam master stateroom with a king-size berth beneath a decorative redwood burl ceiling. Its spacious private head is big enough for two sinks and a whirlpool tub. Opposite is a guest stateroom with private head, while in the bow there's a generous VIP stateroom with en suite facilities.
