Tonight, I was watching Extreme Engineering, and for a part of the show they covered, a research vessel called the Kilo Moana. They covered the fact, that the catamaran design is very stable, and comfortable to ride on because the waves do not rock the vessel, have a turning radius of zero, and a more shallow draft. So my question is why don't yacht designers and naval architects design yachts and other vessels. Though yet, not many owners, ride their yachts in the rough waters, or care about the turning radius, and for some owners even the crew Even while they are in port, the swells could be some what rough. As well as making it easier to navigate in ports.
The idea of combining volume and performance is about as old as boatbuilding itself. But sometimes the execution just brings the mix to a precise level that will stop you in your tracks. Check out the 26-knot Sunseeker 95, and see how she came about.
